The effective implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) will potentially be a game changer for African Continent’s socio-economic development, delivering far greater and superior benefits in terms of economic growth, investment attraction, increased trade, job creation, and reduction of extreme poverty while also delivering peace, stability, and shared prosperity for all who live in the Continent. The World Bank (2022) predicts that, leveraged well, the AfCFTA would deepen trade integration, driving up Africa’s exports to the rest of the world by 32 percent by 2035, and intra-African exports would grow by 109 percent, led by manufactured goods. For these ambitious goals to be fully realized, businesses in Africa must overcome the current challenge of access to financing. This therefore calls for the development and introduction of new and innovative financing solutions that support the transformation of the structure of Africa’s trade which will enable the continent to build fair and efficient markets, improve competitiveness, and attract even more FDI.
