The Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness Hon Sethomo Leletisitswe visited Southoak (PTY) Ltd, a citizen owned company based in Phakalane that manufactures protective clothing.

According to the Director Ms Kgalalelo Machacha, Southoak (Pty) Ltd was funded by CEDA and started operations in August 2021, with a staff complement of 17 employees. Southoak manufacturers head covers, shoe covers and gowns. Ms Machacha said the company currently supplies the hospitality industry, hair salons, medical industry and abattoirs.

Hon Lelatisitswe said government wishes to see growth in the manufacturing industry in Botswana hence the need for companies to support local manufacturing companies. He asserted that the quality of goods produced is of international standards, as such there is no excuse for companies in the medical industry to continue procuring products outside the country.

The Assistant Minister was accompanied by representatives from Bokamoso Private Hospital, Sidilega Private Hospital, Central Medical Stores and the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA). The visit is one of the many that both the Minister of Health and Wellness Hon Dr Edwin Dikoloti and the Assistant Minister Hon Lelatisitswe undertook in an effort to appreciate what the locals manufacturers of medical supplies and equipment are doing.
